What should I expect during my first massage therapy visit?

Please arrive a little early as I will need you to fill out a one-page health history form. Then I may ask you general questions to establish what areas you would like worked on and if there are any conditions needing to be addressed which may make massage inappropriate for you that day, such as certain medications, medical conditions, or illness.

Where will my massage session take place?

Your massage or bodywork session will take place in a warm, comfortable, quiet room. Soft music may be played to help you relax. You will lie on a table especially designed for your comfort. For Thai massage, you will lie on the floor atop a padded floor mat.

What do I wear during the massage?

Depending on the primary technique I use, you may or may not need to undress. For a full body massage, most people undress completely. However, you may choose to wear underwear. You will have privacy to undress, and you will be covered with a sheet at all times except the area being worked on.

For Thai massage, you should wear clothing in which you would feel comfortable as you are stretched through several positions. I recommend yoga or closer fitting sweat pants (not too baggy) and a tee shirt.

What do I do during a massage therapy treatment?

Make yourself comfortable. If I need you to adjust your position, I will either move you or will ask you to move what is needed. Otherwise, change your position anytime to make yourself more comfortable. Many people close their eyes and relax completely during a session; some prefer to talk. It's up to you. It is your massage, and whatever feels natural to you is the best way to relax. Do not hesitate to ask questions at any time.

How will a massage feel?

It usually depends on the techniques used. As your body becomes relaxed, pressure will gradually be increased to relax specific areas and relieve areas of muscular tension. I use cream to allow your muscles to be massaged without causing excessive friction to the skin. Do not hesitate to ask questions or mention if you feel any discomfort so that I can use another approach or technique.

How long will a massage treatment last?

The average full-body massage treatment lasts one hour. A half-hour appointment only allows time for a partial massage session, such as neck and shoulders, back or legs and feet. Many people prefer a 60- to 90-minute session for optimal relaxation. Always allow some relaxation time prior to and after the session.

How will I feel after the massage therapy treatment?

Most people feel very relaxed. Some experience freedom from long-term aches and pains developed from tension or repetitive activity. After an initial period of feeling slowed down, people often experience increased energy, and heightened awareness. Since toxins are released from your soft tissues during a massage, it is recommended you drink plenty of water following your massage.

Can I get a same day appointment?

While I do accept same day appointments, they are not always readily available. The best option is to schedule an appointment to assure you get on my schedule.  You can always make changes later if need be.

Do you accept insurance?

No, I do not accept insurance.

To avoid being charged for the full amount of your session, please give 24 hours’ notice if you will be unable to make your scheduled appointment time. If you book your appointment for the same day, please be sure you can make it before you book as I may turn down someone else for that time.

Lateness and No Show policy

If you are going to be late for your massage please call me as soon as you can so that I can adjust my schedule or reschedule your massage if needed. I will not schedule a person again after two no shows with no attempt to contact me or reschedule.
